John Peel session producer Dale Griffin dies

I was really sad to hear that Dale Griffin has died. The news comes only a week after the world lost David Bowie whom helped Dale’s band Mott The Hoople to success in the early 1970s.

For many of you Dale Griffin was also known as the producer of many John Peel Sessions. Between 1981 and 1994 he produced around 2,000 of the sessions for the show on Radio 1 and you will have some of these recordings in your collection.

He would have helped to shape the sound of many Creation bands when recording studio costs were expensive, these sessions would have also given huge exposure on the John Peel show which for many was the only way to hear new music in pre-internet days. I spent many evenings myself recording these sessions off the radio on cassette.
