From the summer of 1988 things had been taking off for The House of Love in a very big way.
They were on the cover of the music papers after the release of their debut LP and now the band were tipped to be the next big band, with critics predicting they’d one day be ‘as big as U2’. In the UK they’d apeared on both Snub TV and the South Bank Show and these clips have been freely available on YouTube for years.
The videos below show the band being interviewed on German TV in what I can guess is very early 1989. In the video the band discuss the loss of Andrea Heukamp from the line-up alongside their plans for the second album later in the year. Interestingly they also talk about how happy they are with Creation and have had no need to change labels “until now” signally their future move to Fontana.
The House of Love head off on a load of live dates this year including some dates with fellow NME ‘Class of ’89’ bands The Wonder stuff and The Darling Buds. Details are below:
