Ruby’s ‘Tiny Meat’ turns 20

Ruby Tiny Meat

Released on February 12th 1996, ‘Tiny Meat’ was the second single taken Ruby’s debut album ‘Salt Peter’ the latest project of Silverfish frontwoman Lesley Rankin.

Whereas Silverfish had a much louder punk element to their sound, Ruby were far more of their time experimenting with electronics and much closer to the trip-hop sound of the mid 90s.

‘Salt Peter’ featured three singles and charted both sides of the Atlantic. It would be the only studio album of Ruby’s released on Creation Records as the label closed before the release of the second album ‘Short-Staffed At The Gene Pool’. The second album emerged in 2001 on Dick Green’s Wichita label.

All of the singles contained numerous remixes by some of the biggest names at the time inlcuding David Holmes and Richard Fearless. However the most surprising Ruby release in 1996 was a duet with Tom Jones for the Jackie Chan movie ‘Supercop’.

Ruby have announced a one off gig at Falmouth Poly on Saturday April 30th. You can view details about the gig here.
