It’s that time of year to pack your tent, boots and other essentials as this weekend is the Glastonbury Festival, the best festival in the world.
This year Super Furry Animals are headlining the Park Stage on Friday night whilst Primal Scream are playing a Northern Soul DJ set on Saturday at Jag’z Acid Lounge.
Creation bands at Glastonbury are nothing new, The Jazz Butcher and The June Brides played there in 1986 whilst The Weather Prophets and Felt both played in 1987.
In 1992 the cameras started showing up at the festival and by 1994 live broadcasting on TV had arrived. So lets have a look at a selection of Creation artists who performed at the festival.
Teenage Fanclub
In 1993 Teenage Fanclub were playing just before headliners (and band of the moment) Suede on the Other Stage when they previewed tracks from their third album ‘Thirteen’.
Super Furry Animals
Just weeks after the release of their last Creation album ‘Guerilla’ in 1999, Super Furry Animals played the Other Stage along with fellow labelmates 3 Colours Red.
The Boo Radleys
1995 was the summer of Britpop and The Boo Radleys played Glastonbury having recently topped the UK album charts and scoring one of the biggest hits of the summer.
Adorable
Adorable played Glastonbury in 1993 whilst promoting their debut album ‘Against Perfection’.
Ride
Making their Glastonbury debut on the Pyramid Stage in 1994 were Ride, just a few days after the release of their third album ‘Carnival of Light’.
Saint Etienne
One of the first Glastonbury sets to be broadcast live on national TV were Saint Etienne on a sunny Friday afternoon in 1994.
Oasis
Oasis made their debut in 1994 on the NME Stage, the band returned later a couple of times as Pyramid Stage headliners.
Primal Scream
Primal Scream’s brilliant headline slot in 1992 was supported by The Orb setting the scene perfectly and the field was literally rammed, despite Channel 4 filming the festival that year for a TV series no footage has ever emerged. So here’s their set from 2011 when they were on the Screamadelica anniversary tour. Same stage, nearly the same set list, just 19 years later!
Bernard Butler
Promoting his debut solo album ‘People Hold On’ Bernard Butler (with Slowdive’s Neil Halstead on guitar) played Glastonbury in 1998.
