Fifteen years is a long time in the world of music, but that’s how long its been since Creation closed its doors for the last time in 2000. To mark this occasion I’ve put together a list of 15 of the best tracks released by Creation artists since the label closed.
Pete Fij / Terry Bickers – Out of Time (2014)
Take one of the great Creation frontmen and one of the best guitarists of the label and you’ll have Pete Fij and Terry Bickers. Their ‘Broken Hearted Surgery’ album last year showed they’ve both still got the talent that made us love them in the first place.
Primal Scream – Autobahn 66 (2002)
Evil Heat always appeared to me to be the final part of the Vanishing Point/XTRMNTR trilogy. It may not have seemed as exciting but that was because they’d be spoilt before. Autobahn 66 takes us on a krautrock journey.
Mojave 3 – Bluebird of Happiness (2003)
As good as anything released by Slowdive (whom I love), personally I think this is one of Neil and Rachel’s finest moments. Over 9 minutes of musical perfection.
My Bloody Valentine – Wonder 2 (2013)
The thing we all love about Kevin Shields is his experimentation with sound, on the ‘m b v’ album he certainly managed to go somewhere new with this track.
Super Furry Animals – (Drawing) Rings Around The World (2001)
Their move to a major label didn’t dent their creativity and RATW still remains one of their best albums. So pleased to see them back after a break.
The House of Love – Maybe You Know (2005)
With Terry Bickers back in the band, their first album in over a decade sang with hindsight about their heyday of the band.
The Jasmine Minks – Daddy Dog (2001)
The band returned in 2001 on Poptones with their first album in over a decade, they may have been a little older but that hadn’t dampened any of their passion.
Rachel Goswell – Coastline (2005)
The second I first heard the Ulrich Schnauss remix of this track I fell in love with it, take Rachel’s original and mix it with a beautiful balearic style backing.
Swervedriver – Setting Sun (2015)
Their first album in 17 years wasn’t just a return to form, it’s possibly their best album yet! I could have picked many of the tracks from ‘I Wasn’t Born To Lose You’.
The Telescopes – Another Sky (2006)
The lead track from the bands fifth album which saw Stephen Lawrie at the peak of his experimentation.
Mark Gardener and Robin Guthrie – Yesterday’s News (2015)
In Mark Gardener’s collaboration with Cocteau Twin’s Robin Guthrie he sings about life after Ride and despite all those problems he “wouldn’t have it any other way”.
Teenage Fanclub – It’s All In My Mind (2005)
Creation’s most consistent band, this track taken from their eighth album (or ninth if you include The King) should have been a big radio friendly hit.
Televise – Underwater(2006)
Simon Scott from Slowdive fronted Televise for a short while in the mid-2000’s before going solo and the Televise album ‘Songs To Sing In A and E’ is a classic.
Oasis – The Importance of Being Idle (2005)
Over a decade after their debut the Oasis phenomenon showed no signs of waning when their sixth album went on to sell 9 million copies and giving them 2 UK number ones.
Neon Neon – I Lust U (2008)
The idea of a concept album about John Deloreon didn’t initally appeal to me, but Super Furries’ Gruff Rhys along with Boom Bip made a great album including this track with Cate le Bon.
