Another old piece of bootleg footage to appear on YouTube recently is a track from My Bloody Valentine’s 1989 Reading Festival performance.
Reading is now a regular part of the festival circuit, but following 1988 the event nearly ground to a halt after another terrible line-up with most of the acts being showered with bottles. Among the acts facing a torrent of abuse that weekend were Meat Loaf, Squeeze, Starship and Deacon Blue! The festival was struggling to move from the 1970s.
1989 saw the organisers decide to change direction and booked for the weekend were the likes of The House of Love, The Sugarcubes and New Order.
My Bloody Valentine were booked to play early on a Friday afternoon, the band treaded the boards straight after Spacemen 3 for what was to be their last ever performance before splitting to form Spiritualized and Spectrum.
The footage below may be shaky but you can still see and hear the band in amongst all the chaos, the clip below is of ‘You Made Me Realise’.
